1962 Austin Princess.
My post (yesterday) in regards to my fantasy about an Austin "Westminster" vehicle, helped me to remember an experience I had with another Austin - back in 1986.
I was in England chatting with my family. My American companion Joe R, who was learning at the University of Kent in Canterbury, came up to Bristol to see me, my sibling Martyn, and Martyn's significant other Wendy.
Martyn masterminded a vehicle rental through a nearby "Lease a-Wreck" organization, so Joe and I could drive up to Burnley in Lancashire, there to visit with my sibling Andy, his (then, at that point) spouse Barbara, and their two chaps Dan and Michael.
The vehicle I had leased stalled on the M5 motorway, some place close to Worcester. I appear to recollect that we figured out how to get a tow into Worcester, there to anticipate a salvage/substitution vehicle from the Bristol based "Lease a-Wreck" firm.
It was a cool, dark and hazy day. We relaxed by visiting the Cathedral, and afterward hanging out at a bar.
The salvage vehicle won't ever show up. Prepare to have your mind blown. It too had separated on the Motorway parking!
After a long, huge delay (in those prior days cell 'phones), the second salvage vehicle in the end showed up.
It was an Austin Princess limousine, with the inside completely decked out as a wedding vehicle. By then it was excessively late to go to Burnley, so Joe and I were driven back to Bristol in Austin Princess wedding vehicle style
Once back in Bristol I expected to call Andy to clarify what had occurred.
Martyn gave me the "speed dial" number to call Andy. I hit it.
At the point when he addressed I started by saying "I'll never again lease from that organization".
As it happened I had hit the "last call" number unintentionally.
Indeed to be sure, the last call that Martyn had made was to the "Lease a-Wreck" firm. Along these lines, I was telling "Lease a-Wreck" that I'd never again lease from them!. Thank heavens - the proprietor was delighted!
My old buddy Joe is presently 49 years of age, and wedded to Deanne. They have two youngsters. He also recollects our impromptu day in a cold and hazy Worcester, and our ride home in the Austin Car I have known - the Austin Princess.
